After 56 Days in Office, Biden Still Hasn’t Held a News Conference

Biden breaks record with absence from formal media setting

Joe Biden is still yet to hold a solo news conference after being in office for over 50 days.

The time period is the longest a new president has gone without meeting with the media in 100 years.

The White House said Biden would hold a news conference before April, late confirming it would take place on March 25.

The Biden Administration has tried to justify the absence by arguing he is still taking questions from reporters in informal settings.

President Donald Trump waited 27 days to hold a press conference, while Obama waited just 20 days.

White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters last week:

“The president takes questions several times a week.”

“[W]hich is an opportunity for the people covering the White House to ask him about whatever news is happening on any given day.”

She added that Biden would be directing his “energy” into getting Americans through the pandemic with vaccines and passing the American Rescue Plan.

President Zeke Miller told Vanity Fair earlier this month that news conferences were “critical to informing the American people and holding an administration accountable.”

The Washington Post blasted Biden saying, “it’s past time for Biden to hold a news conference.”

Though Biden has not appeared in a formal press conference, he has still signed dozens of executive orders and actions since taking office.

Rep. Andy Biggs (R-AZ) questioned whether there was something going on that was stopping Biden from being transparent with the American people, tweeting:

“Why is Joe Biden hiding from the American people?”

Republican researcher Zach Parkinson tweeted out a graph showing the length of time that it took all presidents dating back to Herbert Hoover to hold their first solo press conference.

Biden was by far the longest.
