AOC Warns of Brokered Convention: It ‘Would Hurt Democratic Nominee’

Sanders supporter Ocasio-Cortez weighs in on possible nomination scenario

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez argued that a brokered convention, to decide the Democratic Party’s presidential nominee, would risk putting whoever is picked at a disadvantage.

“I hope just for the sake of the party overall that this does not get to a brokered convention,” AOC told CNN on Wednesday.

“I think that hurts the nominee, whoever the nominee is.”

On Super Tuesday, former Vice President Joe Biden surged past Bernie Sanders after his ten wins.

Currently, Biden now has 565 delegates compared to Sanders’s 506, NBC News reported.

In order to win the Democratic nomination, Candidates need a total of 1,991 delegates.

Sanders admitted he would drop out if former Vice President Joe Biden has the majority of pledged delegates ahead of the Democratic National Convention.

Biden, who has since gained endorsement from Presidential candidate dropouts like Mike Bloomberg and Pete Buttigieg, gained traction during Super Tuesday as CNN touted his “juggernaut” comeback.

Appearing on MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show, Sanders was asked about the possibility of Biden having more delegates.

“If, at the end of the day, it turns out that Vice President Biden is going to have more delegates than you do heading into the convention, will you drop out?” Rachel Maddow asked Sanders.

“Of course, I’m gonna drop out; he will win,” Sanders replied.

“I mean, I suspect, we will run through the process, and I think people have a right to vote,” Sanders added.

“But if Biden walks into the convention, or at the end of the process has more votes than me, he’s the winner,” he admitted.

Earlier this week, the socialist candidate accused the ‘political establishment’ of conspiring to “derail” his campaign.

Sanders wrote in an email titled “We need a lot of donations today,” said the establishment had chosen Biden.

“The political establishment has chosen their candidate. It’s Joe Biden,” the email read.

“And they’re lining up behind him in an effort to derail our momentum in this race.”
