NYC Mayor faces backlash during event
Democratic New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio faced a massive eruption of boos during the Global Citizen Live concert on Saturday.
The reaction from the crowd marks the second time de Blasio was heckled at a major Central Park performance.

As De Blasio took the mic to tout New York City’s climate change initiatives, he faced jeers and boos.
The event saw sets from Coldplay, J-Lo and Lizzo, and appearances by Prince Harry, Meghan Markle.
Last month, de Blasio saw the same reaction from attendees who celebrated the city reopening after the pandemic at the Homecoming Concert in Central Park.
But De Blasio ignored the backlash on Twitter:
‘@GlblCtzn unites the world around the common purpose of giving voice to every citizen and leaving a better planet behind for our children. Honored to join them tonight. #GlobalCitizenLive,’ the mayor wrote.

“You can make appearances with Harry & Megan, go to concerts like this….but no time to address the mounting deaths and dysfunction at Rikers until next week. Mmmk.”
Another Twitter user David de Trollio said:
“This ‘Mayor’ has made the city someplace to avoid more than any other time I can recall in my life.”
“A close friend and myself both passed on well-paying positions in the city primarily due to safety factors. The Dinkins’ years are almost a pleasant memory compared to now.”
