Tech giant fires software engineer for criticizing their ‘culture’ of ‘outrage mobs’
A conservative Google employee, who wrote an article criticizing the search giant for “outrage mobs and witch hunts” that “dominate its culture,” has been fired by the company.
Software engineer Mike Wacker said Google’s mentality has become an “existential threat” to the company’s credibility.
Google fired wacker after he published a post on Medium where he suggested that the company’s “outrage mobs” and “witch hunts” target both outsiders and insiders, including its own employees, according to the Daily Caller.
The article was published on the 21 May 2019, with Wacker being placed on administrative leave last Wednesday before being fired just two days later.
The software engineer appeared on Fox Business addressing Google’s anti-conservative bias, describing how the “outrage mobs are so hostile,” and even if you “push back on them, they can turn on you instead.”
“You don’t know what’s going to offend somebody next and a lot of time they are going to HR over these trivial things,” he said.
Wacker elaborated what he had written about in the article, saying discussing “hateful” topics such as the Conservative Political Action Conference or President of The Heritage Foundation Kay Coles James could land a person in much trouble with HR.
For example, a petition was signed by Google employees two months ago calling for the removal of Kay Coles James from the AI ethics board for “anti-LGBTQ” and “anti-immigrant” remarks.
“Allegedly, Google is a company that supports a freedom of expression, but Google is also a company where you can get in trouble with HR for defending Jordan Peterson’s stance that the government cannot compel speech, including compelling the usage of preferred pronouns,” he wrote in the piece.
#Google Software engineer @m_wacker SOUNDS OFF on his company’s anti-conservative bias: “These outrage mobs are so hostile. You want to kind of want to push back on them… but if you push back, they can turn on you instead.” #TrishRegan pic.twitter.com/giUYQFAxay

Wacker detailed several instances were his disputes with other employees went straight to HR complaints, which, he insists, are politically biased.
Wacker’s firing comes as the U.S. Justice Department is preparing an anti-trust investigation of the tech firm.
The new probe, which was previously carried out by The Federal Trade Commission seven years ago, will now be taken on by the DOJ who are expected to examine the tech giant’s “search and other businesses.”
“With turf now settled, the department is preparing to closely examine Google’s business practices related to its search and other businesses, the people said,” according to Wall Street The Journal.
Last month, Neon Nettle reported that an algorithm has detected that search giant Google favors left-leaning sites like CNN and The New York Times over others, according to a new study.
Researchers from Northwestern University compiled data which revealed the search engine promoted liberal sites over others in November 2017.
Moreover, within the 6,302 articles that appeared in Google’s ‘top stories,’ over 10 percent were CNN.
Coming in second was The New York Times, which accounted for 6.5 percent of articles.
