DNC Chairman: ‘I Don’t Know What Faith’ Trump Supporters Follow

Tom Perez slams supporters of president suggesting they’re hypocritical

Tom Perez, chairman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC), implied that Trump supporters are hypocritical for attending the president’s rallies while going to church.

Speaking to Axios, Perez said:

“I think the challenge that I see among a lot of people that go to Donald Trump rallies, and then they will go to church on Sunday, and I’m not, I don’t know what faith they are worshiping.”

“Donald Trump has done more to hurt the least of us among us than just about any president I can think of.”

Perez made the remarks after he was pressed on whether there’s room in the Democratic Party for those who do not support abortion rights.

In 2017, Perez said every democrat must support the party’s abortion stance, saying support was “not negotiable.”

Perez said he found it challenging to understand how Christians can support President Trump.

Speaking with “Axios on HBO,” the DNC chairman was asked to comment on his comments that the Democrat’s pro-abortion stance was “not negotiable.”

Axios’ Jonathan Swan noted the archbishop of New York, Cardinal Timothy Dolan’s criticism of Perez’s comments at the time, and accused the Democratic Party of slamming the door on Catholics.

“Actually, the majority of the Catholics voted for Democrats in 2016,” he said.

“So apparently the Cardinal may not understand that Matthew 25 is a pretty important teaching,” he added.

“And Matthew 25 says, you know, ‘When you are hungry, I fed you. When you were naked, I provided you with clothing. When you were an immigrant, I welcomed you.’”

“I think one of the reasons why so many people are moving away from Donald Trump is that he’s abandoned all of those values,” he added.

Perez then attacked Trump supporters:

“The challenge that I see among a lot of people that go to Donald Trump rallies and then they will go to church on Sunday — and I don’t know what faith they are worshipping — Donald Trump has done more to hurt the least of us, among us, than just about any president I can think of,” he said.

Democrats have long accused Trump supporters of not reflecting the American people.

Former First Lady Michelle Obama last year blasted Trump supporters saying they were “not reflective” of America.

Obama slammed the diversity of Trump’s audience, claiming they “made sure that the crowd looked like all of America” during Barack’s inauguration by inviting more “people of color.”
