Dr. Birx To Step Down After Ignoring Her Own Travel Advice

Health expert travelled out of state for Thanksgiving

Dr. Deborah Birx, the coordinator of the White House coronavirus response, has announced she will retire following a backlash after she ignored her own public advice by traveling out of state to visit family over Thanksgiving weekend.

Birx did not give a time frame for her retirement.

“I want the Biden administration to be successful,” she told Newsy.

“I will be helpful in any role that people think I can be helpful in, and then I will retire.”

“I will have to say, as a civil servant, I will be helpful through a period of time, and then I will have to say, this experience has been a bit overwhelming. It has been very difficult on my family…I think what was done over the last week to my family.”

Birx’s comments come after reports of her traveling out of state for the Thanksgiving holiday weekend after she urged Americans to stay at home.

The health ‘expert’ faced fire and was branded a hypocrite for her trip where she was accompanied by her husband Paige Reffe, one of her daughters, a son-in-law, and two grandchildren.

She later said that the backlash had been very hard on her and her family.

She acknowledged in a Sunday statement that she traveled to her Delaware property and was accompanied by family members.

“I did not go to Delaware for the purpose of celebrating Thanksgiving,” Birx said in her statement.

The CDC has urged Americans not to travel over the holidays while discouraging indoor activity involving members of different households.

“People who do not currently live in your housing unit, such as college students who are returning home from school for the holidays, should be considered part of different households,” it said.
