Gingrich: Media Reports on Mueller Designed to ‘Maximize Embarrassment’ for Barr

Former House Speaker says ‘Deep State’ playing games

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has noted the recent report by the Washington Post that Special Counsel Robert Mueller told Attorney General William Barr that his s summary “did not fully capture the context, nature, and substance” of the Russi probe, was leaked to “maximize the embarrassment” ahead of the hearings this coming Wednesday.

Speaking on the “Ingraham Angle,” Gingrich said, “The ‘Deep State’ and Washington has played these games for the whole history of the country, this is not something new.”

According to The Washington Post, Mueller contacted Barr, in both a letter and phone call, expressing concerns following Barr’s public summary of the report in March.

Barr was reportedly pushed by Mueller to release the executive summaries written by his office.

But according to both the Justice Department and the Post, Mueller said he did not feel Barr’s summary was inaccurate.

Mueller told Barr that the media coverage of the letter had “misinterpreted” the probe’s results regarding the obstruction of justice.

This Thursday, Barr is expected to appear before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

The Post’s seemingly misleading headline was entitled, “Mueller complained that Barr’s letter did not capture ‘context’ of Trump probe.”

But Gingrich brushed off the report.

“After all the noise you just shrug your shoulders and say, ‘so what?’ Mueller had every opportunity to come out the day that Barr released his letter.

Mueller could have at any point decided to refute it, and as I understand the actual key sentences, the distortion is by the news media. The distortion is not by Barr,” Gingrich said.

“Think about this. The media that Mueller is complaining about are the people who are now using Mueller’s complaint to further distort what is going on. You couldn’t make this up,” he added.

Earlier this week, Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Lindsey Graham, R-S.C. said that this week’s next hearing would look at whether Attorney General William Barr misrepresented the findings from the Mueller report.

“Well, he gave a four-page summary. Does the report support his summary? Does the report actually indicate there was no collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russians?” Graham said during a BBS “Face the Nation” interview.

But Barr warned he would not appear at Thursday’s hearing before the House Judiciary Committee.

Based on current negotiations over his appearance, Barr has threatened Committee Chair Jerry Nadler (D-NY) and the Democrats that he will skip his testimony, a source on the committee told Fox News on Sunday.

The dispute derives om the attacks on Barr from congressional Democrats, who are accusing him of protecting president Donald Trump.
