Biden said he is the best candidate for going up against President Donald Trump
Former Vice President Joe Biden has boasted he is the ‘most qualified’ person in the country to be President in one of the most obvious hints of a 2020 presidential run yet.
Speaking at as top on his book tour, Biden, 76, said he would be the best candidate for going up against President Donald Trump.
‘I’ll be as straight with you as I can. I think I’m the most qualified person in the country to be president,’ Biden told a crowd while promoting his book.
‘The issues that we face as a country today are the issues that have been in my wheelhouse, that I’ve worked on my whole life,’ he said, according to the Hill.
Biden, who sworn in as vice president to Obama in 2009, sais his wealth of experience is the key to winning.
“No one should run for the job unless they believe that they would be qualified to do the job. I’ve been doing this my whole adult life, and the issues that are the most consequential relating to the plight of the middle class and our foreign policy are things that I have – even my critics would acknowledge, I may not be right, but I know a great deal about it,” Biden said.
Biden recently spoke at a Human Rights Campaign fundraising event where he referred to Donald Trump supporters as ‘the dregs of society’ – seemingly upping his game against Hillary Clintons ‘deplorable’ reference.
‘I’m ready to litigate all those things; the question is what kind of nation are we becoming? What are we going to do? Who are we?” Biden said.
As the Democrats scramble for power, Biden vowed: “Whether or not I run, whoever runs, I’m going to break my neck to make sure they win. We can’t have four more years.”
Sen. Bernie Sanders is already gathering staff for a potential run.
‘This time, he starts as a front-runner or one of the front-runners,’ said Sanders’ 2016 campaign manager, Jeff Weaver, according to tot he associated press.
Biden passed on the 2017 presidential run because of the death of his adult son, Beau, in 2015.
‘We’re going to make that decision in the next six weeks to two months, and that’s the basis of the decision,’ he said.
