Democrat presidential candidate pledges to target ‘gun manufacturers’ if elected
Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden has issued a warning to gun makers, declaring “I’m going to take you down” if elected president.
Former Vice President Biden made the threat during a Monday night speech in South Carolina.
Biden pledged to target gun manufacturers after referencing the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (2005).
The PLCAA shields manufacturers from lawsuits in situations where the guns in question were legally made and sold.
The existence of that law has been the focus of repeated criticisms from Biden during his campaign trail.
He attacked the law in Las Vegas on February 19, and also in New Hampshire earlier in the month.
During his New Hampshire comments, Biden said it was a “mistake” to give “gun manufacturers … a loophole that does not allow them to be sued for the carnage they are creating.”
“The first thing I’m going to do as president is work to get rid of that, and it’s going to be hard,” he added.
Biden went even further during his Monday speech in South Carolina, saying, “I’ve got news for you gun manufacturers.
“I’m coming for you and I’m going to take you down.”
Elsewhere during his Second Amendment-bashing comments in New Hampshire, Biden called for a “rational” gun ban in America, arguing that weapons such as AK-47s couldn’t protect citizens from a tyrannical government.
The ex-VP argued that he believes having a “rational policy” on guns means making sure that people can’t have “50 clips in a weapon.”
Biden warned that a person would need a lot more than an AK-47 to take on a government while calling for the firearms to be banned.
During a separate event at the begging of his 2020 campaign last summer, Biden insisted that the Second Amendment doesn’t say that Americans are “entitled” to own guns.
The former vice president admitted that the “Second Amendment exists” but argued during a speech in New Hampshire that it doesn’t say that Americans are “entitled” to own a gun.
Biden made the comments while taking questions at a small outdoor venue.
“By the way, if one of you left the keys in your car down the street, and a kid comes along and jumps in it and takes off, you could be held liable civilly for that,” Biden explained to a small crowd of his supporters.
“So if you own a gun, put a damn trigger lock on it. Put it in a case. You have an obligation.”
