Cristina King Miranda posted that she knew about ‘assault rumours’ from school
A classmate of Dr. Christine Blasey Ford is now retracting claims that she knew about an alleged sexual assault committed by Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh.
Cristina King Miranda, who claims she attended high school with Ford, posting on Facebook that she knew about school rumors about an assault incident involving Kavanaugh and Ford back in the 1980s.
Hours later, Miranda deleted her post and refrained from talking to media about her claims.
Later, Miranda spoke to NPR and admitted she had zero information about an alleged assault.
“That it happened or not, I have no idea,” Cristina King Miranda told NPR’s Nina Totenberg. “I can’t say that it did or didn’t.”
According to the DC: Miranda’s new statement directly contradicts her Facebook post, in which she wrote, “The incident DID happen, many of us heard about it in school.”
“In my post, I was empowered and I was sure it probably did [happen],” Miranda told NPR this morning. “I had no idea that I would now have to go to the specifics and defend it before 50 cable channels and have my face spread all over MSNBC news and Twitter.”
Miranda said the Senate Judiciary Committee reached out to her after her post but that she would not testify if asked.
Dr. Ford previously said she had not told anyone about the incident until a therapist meeting in 2012.
Ford also said the incident happened during the summer, contradicting Miranda’s assertion that she heard rumors about it in school.
Senate Democrats on the Judiciary Committee are seemingly scrambling to delay Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation to the Supreme Court.
Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), the ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, referred a mysterious letter about Kavanaugh to the FBI.
The woman who wrote the letter, which the FBI has been holding since July, accused Judge Kavanaugh of sexual assault allegedly committed 36 years ago.The letter was only dropped by Feinstein as a last resort.
Christine Blasey Ford now says she wants the FBI to conduct an investigation before Senators actually hold a hearing on the sexual assault allegations directed at Kavanaugh.
Ford’s lawyer responded to Republican Senators on Monday following unanswered requests regarding Monday’s hearing.
