London Mayor: Trump Doesn’t Deserve State Visit, ‘Not Same Class’ As Obama

Sadiq Khan slams democratically elected leader of the United States

London Mayor Sadiq Khan has claimed the democratically elected leader of the United States, president Donald Trump, does not deserve a state visit to the United Kingdom.

Khan, who last year disrespectfully approved a giant balloon of the president wearing a diaper to be flown over the British capital, told British radio station LBC that Trump was not “in the same class” as former President Barack Obama.

“Of course, we should have a close relationship with the president of the United States, but we shouldn’t be rolling out the red carpet; we shouldn’t have a state banquet,” Khan told the station.

Both President George W. Bush and Barack Obama enjoyed state visits in 2003 and 2011.

“History tells us only two presidents have had a state visit,” Khan continued.

“I think President Trump is certainly not in the same class as those two.”

Khan, who recently scrapped female toilets and showers for female staff, replacing them with “gender neutral” facilities instead, said that he takes issue with Trump’s past comments about women.

“The impression is being given that you can get away from it — that you get a get-out-of-jail card. But it’s worse than that,” Khan said.

“There’s a boasting and bragging; it’s almost like a green light for others to behave badly.”

Khan joins the likes of Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn, who said he will be boycotting the “racist and misogynistic” president during his visit.

“Theresa May should not be rolling out the red carpet for a state visit to honor a President who rips up vital international treaties, backs climate change denial and uses racist and misogynist rhetoric,” Corbyn said in April.

“Maintaining an important relationship with the United States does not require the pomp and ceremony of a State Visit. It is disappointing that the Prime Minister has again opted to kowtow to this US administration.”

But Khan has more problems at home.

Last month the London Mayor rolled his eyes as he admitted defeat on London’s knife crime epidemic.

Khan, who announced plans to slash the number of police in the UK capital last year, said ‘I’ve done all I can’ as he was grilled over his complete failure of tackling London’s violent knife crime epidemic in an interview with Sky News.
