Maxine Waters Vows to Fight Trump’s Lawsuit to Block Bank Record Access

Trump, along with three of his children sued Deutsche Bank and Capital One on Monday

House Financial Services Committee Chairwoman Maxine Waters has vowed to continue efforts to obtain President Donald Trump’s financial records from two banks following a lawsuit by the Trump administration to block access.

“I am not surprised at all, but we will fight him back,” Waters said Tuesday following a closed-door meeting with Democrats.

Trump, along with three of his children sued Deutsche Bank and Capital One on Monday to prevent them from complying with subpoenas issued by the Financial Services panel and the House Intelligence Committee.

But Waters insists that banks will give in and eventually turn over the records, which they were planning to do prior to the lawsuit.

“We have representation from Deutsche Bank and Capital One that … will cooperate with us so that he can file his lawsuits,” Waters said.

“They needed a subpoena in order to do what they need to do to give us the documents. They’ve said they will cooperate so, so far, his lawsuits aren’t doing any good.”

According to Trump’s lawsuit, the subpoenas “were issued to harass President Donald J. Trump, to rummage through every aspect of his personal finances, his businesses and the private information of the president and his family, and to ferret about for any material that might be used to cause him political damage.

“No grounds exist to establish any purpose other than a political one.”

Adam Schiff, D-Calif., and Waters are now seeking data about business banks conducted with a group of presumed Russian and other Eastern European money launderers.

Waters, who has been calling for Trump’s impeachment up until the final Mueller report was released, admitted last month it was off the table.

Waters, who became a leading Democrat in the anti-Trump “Resistance” in Congress, and famously said she had been ‘sent by God to stop Trump,’ and frequently called for the president’s impeachment before the conclusion of Special Counsel Robert Mueller‘s investigation.

But the Democrat’s priorities seem to have changed.

“I think we do nothing now but concentrate on getting the information, getting that report,” Waters told Politico.
