Senior citizen loses eyes and teeth during vicious attack in his home

A 74-year-old man has had both his eyes gouged out of their sockets and most of his teeth knocked out during a vicious attack in his own home.

18-year-old migrant Mahad Aziz was arrested after ripping the elderly man’s eyes out in Rochester, Minnesota.

According to police, Aziz ripped the senior citizen’s out of the sockets with “his bare hands” whilst savagely beating him.

Officers arrived to find Mr. Aziz sat on top of the unconscious victim in “a bloody mess.”

Police say most of the victim lost most of his teeth during the attack, and they have been unable to locate his eyes in the apartment or the surrounding grounds.

ABC6 News reports: Police got reports of suspicious noises at the Rochester Square Apartment complex at 310 31 St. NE around 2 p.m. on Friday, July 27.

According to Rochester Police Interim Chief John Sherwin, police found 18-year-old Mahad Aziz of Rochester on top of a 74-year-old bloodied man.

Interim Chief Sherwin said both of the victim’s eyes were missing as well as several teeth.

He was semi-conscious when police got there and he was sent to the hospital.

Interim Chief Sherwin said officers did not find the man’s eyes.

Authorities say the eyes were “nowhere to be found” and the victim also had teeth knocked out.

The victim told police that Aziz did not use a weapon against him, only his hands. 

Aziz was also sent to the hospital for evaluation before being arrested.

He’s facing a 1st-degree assault charge.

Aziz was later transported to the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center.

Police Capt. John Sherwin told KROCAM that since joining the police department, it’s the first time he’s witnessed an attack where someone removed another person’s eyes. 

He suggested that Aziz may have a mental health condition that led to the attack.

Aziz refused to talk to officers after he was arrested at the scene, police told KTTC, and was examined at the Mayo Clinic Hospital, Saint Marys Campus before he was sent to the Olmsted County Adult Detention Center.

There is still no known motive, police told KROCAM.

The victim was rushed to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, according to The Post Bulletin.

Aziz faces a charge of first-degree assault for the savage, and seemingly unmotivated, attack.

Sherwin said Aziz was given that charge because of the nature of his alleged attack.

“It’s a permanent injury that’s disabling,” he told KTTC.

“A permanent loss of a bodily function.

“And obviously, that applies in this case.”
