Nobel Peace Prize Could Be Stripped from Obama, Handed to Trump Instead

Obama could lose prize in light of San Suu Kyi losing Ambassador of Conscience Award

For many, it was a total surprise that former President Barack Obama was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize back in 2009 after he was only in office a few months.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee chose to honor Obama almost ten years ago for “for his extraordinary efforts to strengthen international diplomacy and cooperation between peoples.”

But the decision could soon be reversed due to opposition from various political figures, civil leaders, and authors.

Rumors are now swirling around in the British media that Barack Obama may see his prize withdrawn in the light of another world leader – Myanmar’s Aung San Suu Kyi – who recently lost Amnesty International’s (AI) highest award.

AI Secretary General notified Aung San Suu Kyi her 2009 Ambassador of Conscience Award was revoked on 11 November.

Just like Obama, who is a Nobel Peace Prize recipient, Aung San Suu Kyi was condemned by almost half a million people who have signed a petition to strip her of the award.

According to Sputnik: While opposition to Obama’s prize may see a resurgence, the support for the current US president to get the Nobel Peace Prize recently saw fresh backing by US lawmakers.

A group of American politicians has signed a resolution in support of the current US President getting the prize in 2019.

The politicians said that Trump’s efforts on a peace deal on the Korean peninsula deserved the Nobel Committee’s recognition.

“Obama got the Nobel Peace Prize when he hadn’t even taken office yet and did absolutely nothing,” said Ohio’s Republican Representative John Becker, one of the signatories to resolution.

According to Ladbrokes, an online betting site, US President Donald Trump is second in the betting at the 5/2 odds of him winning.

Back in June, Donald Trump was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize following his recent ‘historical’ meeting with North Korea’s Kim Jong-un at the nuclear weapons summit.

Trump was put forward for the coveted honor by two politicians in host nation Norway.

Per-Willy Amundsen and Christian Tybring-Gjedde explained how Trump took a “huge and important step” towards peace in the Korean Peninsular, something no other President has achieved.
