NY Mayor Vows Equal Pay for Female Athletes, Forgets Inequality In His Own City

The Mayor vowed that female athlete would receive the same pay as male athletes

New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio has jumped on the bandwagon promising female US national team athletes would receive equal pay if he’s elected president.

The Mayor vowed that female athlete would receive the same pay as male athletes, even if he has to use an executive order, according to the New York Post.

But he is still yet to trump Biden’s recent ‘curing cancer’ promise.

The 2020 Democratic candidate didn’t miss the opportunity to jump on the issue, but there is one small problem, he doesn’t even pay his own female employees equally.

According to the New York Post:

Although women make up half of City Hall’s ten highest earners, the men — including de Blasio — hold four of the five best-paying jobs, with annual salaries that range from $258,000 to $403,000, records show.

Because of that, men in the administration earn an average of $58,400 a year more than their female colleagues, leaving the women earning just 81 cents for every dollar earned by the men.

“The numbers are so clear, we have an administration that’s over 50 percent women in the top positions, absolute equity in the top positions, there’s a handful of higher-paid positions, at this moment in history some are men, and some are women,” said de Blasio.

But New York City emergency services workers did not take to kindly to de Blasio promises to women’s national team pay, as there is blaring apparent pay inequality in his own city.

“While Mayor de Blasio uses this victory parade to grab attention for his presidential run and advocate against pay inequality, the first responders of FDNY EMS are victims of that same inequity,” according to a union statement.

Last month, de Blasio said a government-run health care system would have his support if it offered gender reassignment surgeries.

Speaking at the New York City Pride parade, de Blasio told reporters he would support Medicare for all if it covered gender reassignment.

“Absolutely. We have to respect everyone’s medical needs,” de Blasio said.

“If someone needs surgery to be full and to live their life fully — the idea is a health care system that actually serves everyone to the fullest, not a health care system that rations and causes people to struggle to get just a little health care,” he added.

Following Colin Kaepernick’s footsteps, the women’s national team has become more political, particularly concerning Megan Rapinoe.

The athlete protested the national anthem during the World Cup and refused to put her hand over heart during “The Star-Spangled Banner” — as an apparent “F you” to President Trump.

Describing herself as a ‘walking protest’ because she is a gay woman, Rapinoe made waves when she told the media that there is no way she’d be going to the “f***ing White House” if invited by Trump.
