Democrats are using the ‘children in the cages’ narrative for 2020 campaigns
Obama’s former ICE chief, tasked with handling illegal aliens, has said it was Obama who came up with the idea of putting illegal immigrant children in the “cages,” not President Donald Trump.
Despite this fact, the Democrats are using the ‘children in the cages’ narrative to ignite outrage mobs against Trump as crucial aspects of their 2020 campaigns.
Thomas Homan, who was Obama’s executive associate director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement between May 2013 and 2017, was responsible for “promoting public safety and national security by maintaining direct oversight of critical ICE programs and operations to identify, locate, arrest, detain and remove illegal aliens from the United States.”
He also served as Acting Director for U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) since 2017.
He stated on Wednesday, according to The Washington Examiner:
“I’ve been to that facility, where they talk about cages. That facility was built under President Obama under (Homeland Security) Secretary Jeh Johnson. I was there because I was there when it was built.”
Speaking at the conference hosted by the Center for Immigration Studies, recalled a Democratic chairman who asked a Trump official:
“You still keeping kids in cages?” He snapped, “I would answer the question, ‘The kids are being housed in the same facility built under the Obama administration.’
If you want to call them cages, call them cages. But if the left wants to call them cages and the Democrats want to call them cages, then they have to accept the fact that they were built and funded in FY 2015.”
Over 90,000 kids were detained under Obama. And no one cared
— Brad Parscale (@parscale) June 20, 2018
Homan stated that Border Patrol facilities “were not built to take care of children,” adding, “It’s chain link dividers that keep children separate from unrelated adults. It’s about protecting children.”
But the Democrats conveniently forgets that former Obama detained 90,000 immigrant children in cages during his time in office.
The discovery was uncovered by Trump’s 2020 campaign manager Brad Parscale, who then sent a Tweet out primarily ignored by the mainstream media.
“Over 90,000 kids were detained under Obama. And no one cared.”
Not long after the Tweet, an angry barrage of replies went sent to Parscale attempting to prove the claim was fake news; firstly by conflating two narratives; one is that Trump is putting separated migrant children in prison-like conditions which were then debunked after it was revealed that viral images of caged migrant children actually happened under Obama.
