Obamas Plan to Adapt Anti-Trump Book Into Netflix TV Series

Barack and Michelle buy the rights for Michael Lewis’ Trump-bashing book The Fifth Risk

Ex-President Barack Obama and former First Lady Michelle have acquired the rights for a Trump-bashing nonfiction book which they plan to adapt for a Netflix TV series.

The Obamas obtained the book The Fifth Risk — a gloomy report about the far-reaching ramifications of a Trump presidency — from author Michael Lewis.

The Fifth Risk was released on October 2 through W.W. Norton and details the so-called “chaos and mismanagement” that took place inside the Departments of Agriculture, Commerce, and Energy during the period of transition between Obama and then-president-elect Donald Trump.

In May this year, Netflix announced that the former first couple signed a multiyear contract to produce movies and series for Netflix.

The deal can include scripted and unscripted shows, as well as documentaries and features and the content would be produced by Higher Ground Productions.

Barack Obama said in a statement that he wanted to use the opportunity to “train the next generation.”

According to Breitbart, Lewis claims the Trump transition team selected candidates for key agency positions that they were highly unqualified for, while some jobs still remain vacant.

“One interview in the book is with John MacWilliams, who served as the Energy Department’s first-ever chief risk officer.

“He conveys his worries that any shortchanging in the department under Trump could lead to a nuclear-weapons accident, a potential conflict with North Korea or Iran, or an attack on the U.S. electrical grid,” according to Deadline.

In an interview with Katie Couric set for release Thursday, Lewis says his book is “a civics lesson…

“I did three departments because it would be the work of many lifetimes to do the whole government, but you could do this in a fun way across the entire government.”

Press representatives for the Obamas and Lewis declined to comment on the report.

In May, Netflix announced it would partner with the Obamas to develop original content for the video streaming giant.

“President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama have entered into a multi-year agreement to produce films and series for the streaming platform, potentially including scripted series, unscripted series, docu-series, documentaries, and features,”statement from Netflix read.

The former president told attendees of a Las Vegas technology conference that he intends to use the development deal to help “train the next generation of leaders.”

“We want to tell stories.

“This [Netflix deal] becomes a platform,” he said.

“We are interested in lifting people up and identifying people doing amazing work.”
