Dad wrestles gun away from intruder in daughter’s bedroom before shooting him with it
A Texas father wrestled a gun from an intruder and shot him multiple times with his own weapon after finding him outside his 13-year-old daughter’s bedroom, according to reports.
The hero dad discovered the home invader in the early hours of Sunday morning and shot him multiple times, police said.
Police say the suspect, who was in his early 30s, broke into the family’s home in Houston through the ground floor window sometime after midnight, The Houston Chronicle reported.
Police reportedly responded to a call of a home intruder at 13110 North Bellaire Estates Drive around 2:40 a.m. on Sunday.
The suspect was taken to Southwest Memorial hospital where he was declared dead, police said.
A neighbor had heard the shots and helped get the father’s four children, ages 4 to 13, outside, The Chronicle reported.
The man was allegedly armed, and the father fought for control of the weapon.
Police say the father wrested the gun from the suspect’s grasp and shot him multiple times.
According to Fox News, after returning to the home, the neighbor witnessed the suspect stab himself with a kitchen knife, the report said.
Due to the timing, it appears that he allegedly stabbed himself after being shot.
It wasn’t immediately clear what connection — if any — the suspect had to the family of the home.
The four children in the house escaped the ordeal unharmed.
“This appears to be random,” said Detective Blake Roberts when asked if the suspect had any connection to the family.
“Of course, it’s still under investigation
“We still have a lot of research to do on the male that broke into the house as far as his criminal history, his mental history and anything we can find in order to determine what would be the motive for this.”
Police said the incident is still under investigation and the exact cause of the intruder’s death has yet to be determined.
