Ismail Alwan Salman al-Ithawi was extradited from Turkey earlier this year

A top ISIS leader has been sentenced to hang by a criminal court in Iraq, according to reports.

Ismail Alwan Salman al-Ithawi was extradited from Turkey earlier this year after frantically fleeing from the terrorist group’s crumbling headquarters in Syria.

The violent jihadi is one of the most high-profile members of ISIS and hs the deputy to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi.

According to The DS: Al-Baghdadi is most notable for being reported dead multiple times before popping up alive days or weeks later.

The judicial spokesman, Abdel Sattar Bayraqdar, said: “The Karkh criminal court in Baghdad sentenced to death by hanging one of the most prominent leaders of IS, who served as a deputy of Baghdadi.”

The 55-year-old was tracked down to Turkey’s northwestern Sakarya province before he was captured.

The breakthrough in locating him came after his terror cell was “infiltrated”.

Turkish reports state al-Ithawi is from the Iraqi city of Ramadi and was the ISIS “minister” in charge of religious matters as well as appointing new ISIS “officials”.

In August, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi released a statement urging Islamists to attack Donald Tump.

In the speech, he called on ISIS fanatics across the world to target the “disbeliever media centres” and headquarters of “ideological wars”.

Although unverified, the 55-minute long statement marked the first break in the terror leader’s 11-month spell of silence.
