Trey Gowdy: Comey Has ‘No One to Blame but Himself’ for New Barr Probe

Former South Carolina Republican weighs in on former FBI director

Former South Carolina Republican congressman Trey Gowdy claimed that if former FBI Director James Comey is ‘concerned’ about the findings of a review of the Russia investigation’s origins, he only has himself to blame.

Gowdy said during a Tuesday appearance on “The Story” that Comey has “no one to blame but himself” if he is concerned about Attorney General William Barr appointing a prosecutor to probe the Russia investigation origins.

Referencing a Washington Post op-ed penned by Comey, Gowdy claimed that some at the FBI during Comey’s tenure did things that the average bureau official would not.

“Comey goes on in that op-ed to talk about the good men and women of the FBI. And there are lots of good women and men at the FBI. Most of them would never target a political campaign and hope that it lost 100 million to nothing,” Gowdy, a Fox News contributor, said.

“Most FBI agents would never belittle political supporters of someone else and say they could smell them at a Walmart. They would never promise to stop a political candidate.

They would never say they were destabilizing for the country,” he continued, referencing contents former FBI agent Peter Strzok and bureau ex-lawyer Lisa Page text messages.

“Comey has no one to blame but himself,” Gowdy added.

“Most FBI agents wouldn’t do any of what I describe. Unfortunately, the ones he picked did all of that.”

Earlier this month Gowdy advised Barr’s investigators that the key lies in emails between Comey and Brennan.

Gowdy gave a tip during an interview with Fox News’s Sean Hannity in which he advised investigators toward former CIA Director John Brennan and former FBI Director James Comey.

“So whoever’s investigating this, tell them to look for emails between Brennan and Comey in December 2016,” Gowdy said in an interview with Hannity.

Gowdy didn’t reveal whether he has knowledge of particular information Brennan-Gowdy emails or if he was basing the advice on a theory.

The former congressman also claimed FBI withheld “potential game-changer” evidence from the FISA court during the early stages of the Russia probe.

Gowdy also revealed he had “seen” the evidence and called for the information to be made public.

Speaking to Fox News, Mr. Gowdy said that there are unreleased transcripts between former Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos and an FBI informant.
