President  Donald Trump is reportedly making plans to prohibit US telecom firms from using equipment produced by telecom companies that pose a “national security risk,” possibly aimed at China’s Huawei.

The executive order could be signed as early as this week, but it does not stipulate the companies or countries that fall under the “national security risks.”

The bill is allegedly designed to target Huawei and Chinese telecoms in general, according to Reuters

The bill will invoke the International Emergency Economic Powers Act, permitting the president jurisdiction over interstate commerce in case of an “unusual and extraordinary threat” to the “national security, foreign policy, or economy of the United States,” according to the officials.

Trump has been reportedly contemplating the order for over a year, and it if it goes ahead it will most likely add significant impact to the ongoing trade war between the united states and China.

Last Sunday, Chinese officials failed to produce a satisfactory trade deal, prompting Trump to increase tariffs on Chinese goods to 25 percent.

The president also vowed to slap similar duties on thousands of more products.

Following an August executive order, The US government is already barred from using telecom equipment from Huawei and ZT.

Trump recently warned the UK they risk being kicked out of the Five Eyes intelligence-sharing network if they allow Chinese firm to build any part of their 5G network.

The US insisted the Huawei products are going to be used a backdoor to spy on behalf of the Chinese government.

In March, Trump warned that search giant Google was helping the Chinese military as the US tech firm continues to work on business projects in China.

The president also accused Google of helping Hillary Clinton in the 2016 elections before trolling the tech firm by asking how it turned out.

“Google is helping China and their military, but not the U.S. Terrible! The good news is that they helped Crooked Hillary Clinton and not Trump….” Trump said on Twitter.

The news comes a day after Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Marine General Joseph Dunford, said at a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing that Google is closely working with China.
