Trump Refuses Tariff Waivers for ‘China Made’ Apple Parts: ‘Make them in the USA’

Trump pushes for the creation of more jobs in America

President Donald Trump said he would not grant Apple waivers on tariffs for ‘China-made’ Mac Pro parts, according to reports.

Trump wrote that  Apple would not face tariffs if it made its parts in the US.

“Apple will not be given Tariff waiver, or relief, for Mac Pro parts that are made in China. Make them in the USA, no Tariffs!“ the president tweeted.

Apple made several requests to the Office of the U.S.Trade Representative to make certain Mac Pro parts exempt from the proposed 25% tariff from China.

According To The Washington Examiner: The tariff has not yet been enacted, but the Trump administration initiated an “exclusion process” to exempt some imports from the tariff by permitting waivers.

White House economic adviser Larry Kudlow told reporters Friday that the president is “the decision-maker” when asked if Trump pointedly refused Apple’s request for a waiver.

“There’s some talk that [Apple] would be moving some of their production facilities to Texas,” Kudlow said.

“If they do that, that’d be a very good thing.”

Since taking office, Trump has consistently demanded that Apple move production of more of its iPhones, Macs, and iPads into the U.S. and out of China.

But other products have been allowed exemption from the tariffs, including the Apple Watch and AirPods, due in large part to Apple CEO Tim Cook’s bidding with the president.

Cook was able to get Trump to take those devices off a list that singled out $200 billion of Chinese imports.

Neon Nettle reported in June Alphabet Inc.’s Google is moving some of its server hardware and Nest thermostats production out of China to avoid Donald Trump’s looming tariffs.

Google already dodged a 25% tariff when it recently shifted ts production of U.S.-bound motherboards to Taiwan.U.S. officials have already warned that Chinese-made motherboards are a security risk.

The tariffs have already pushed American-bound production of its Nest devices to Taiwan and Malaysia, according to the sources as per Bloomberg.

Donald Trump urged tech giant Apple in January to relocate its manufacturing base from China to the United States.

The President stance comes amid the lowered revenue forecast of the Silicon Valley giant crashed the market, but Trump said isn’t concerned about it.

“Apple makes its product in China. I told [Apple CEO] Tim Cook, who’s a friend of mine, who I like a lot, ‘Make your product in the United States,’” Trump said before adding that Apple should “build those big, beautiful plants” in America, as China is currently its “biggest beneficiary,” hosting the majority of its production.
