Trump Torches Mitch McConnell: ‘The First One Off the Ship!’

President takes aim at Senate majority leader for disloyalty

President Donald Trump blasted Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell after he acknowledged Democrat Joe Biden as the president-elect.

Trump sent Republican lawmakers a slide accusing McConnell of disloyalty, Axios reported.

The president also noted saving McConnell’s 2020 re-election bid with a tweet and robocall.

“Sadly, Mitch forgot,” Trump said.

“He was the first one off the ship!” Trump wrote in red on the top of the slide sent to Republican senators.

The slide showed the race between Mr. McConnell and Democratic challenger Amy Grath was tied until June 19, until Trump endorsed the Senate majority leader on Twitter.

McConnell increased 22 points just a month later.

Axios wrote:

“The slide shows polling tightening again to 51%-40% before an Oct. 31 Trump robocall.

“McConnell’s final margin of victory over McGrath was 57.8%-38.2%.”

McConnell faced massive backlash from Trump allies after congratulating Biden and recognizing him as “President-elect Joe Biden.”

Trump himself responded to the news, saying people are “angry.”

McConnell said he wanted to “congratulate the President-elect Joe Biden” and “Vice President-elect Kamala Harris.”

Trump tweeted:

Mitch, 75,000,000 VOTES, a record for a sitting President (by a lot). Too soon to give up. Republican Party must finally learn to fight. People are angry!”

Pro-Trump attorney Lin Wood also responded, calling McConnell a ‘traitor’ and vowing:

“His day of judgment is coming.”

“McConnell is NOT a Patriot. Ask his wife. She knows,” wrote Wood.

“McConnell just wants power, influence, & money.

“He is willing to sell America to get what he wants.

“McConnell is a traitor to American Patriots,” Wood continued.
