Twitter Suspends Ocasio-Cortez ‘Press Release’ Parody Account

Account deletion comes amid purge of conservative voices of Facebook

A parody Twitter account which lightly poked fun at socialist Rep Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., has been suspended amid the recent purge of conservative social media accounts.

But Conservative Twitter users noted the account, which had thousands of followers, was marked “parody.”

The man who is believed to be running the account, Michael Morrison, received an email from Twitter saying it was “permanently suspended” for being too similar to Ocasio-Cortez’s account.

“You may not register or create fake and misleading accounts.

While you may use Twitter pseudonymously or as a parody, commentary, or an account, you may not use misleading account information to engage in spamming, abusive, or disruptive behavior including attempts to manipulate the conversations on Twitter,” said the email, which was shared on Twitter.

“You also may not ‘post duplicative or substantially similar content, replies, or mentions over multiple accounts or multiple duplicate updates on one account, or create duplicate or substantially similar accounts.’ This account will not be reinstated.”

Morrison found that his personal account was also suspended Monday.

The ban eerily coincides with Facebook and Instagram’s recent ban of various conservative figures from their platforms, including Infowars host Alex Jones, Paul Joseph Watson, Laura Loomer, and Milo Yiannopoulos.

Instagram and its parent company banned some conservative personalities, according to The Atlantic.

Some of the conservatives claim they were given no reason for the ban.

British conservative Paul Joseph Watson raised the alarm following his ban saying he has not broken Facebook’s rules, and commenting, “In an authoritarian society controlled by a handful of Silicon Valley giants, all dissent must be purged.”

President Donald Trump said he is monitoring the ban on conservatives by the social media platforms.

“I am continuing to monitor the censorship of AMERICAN CITIZENS on social media platforms. This is the United States of America — and we have what’s known as FREEDOM OF SPEECH! We are monitoring and watching, closely!!” Trump said on Twitter Friday.

Trump’s lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, expressed anger following Ocasio-Cortez parody suspension:

“AOC Press’ Parody Killed in Latest Big Tech Election Interference. WHAT IS HAPPENING TO FREE SPEECH? THIS IS CENSORSHIP!” he tweeted.
