Warning for Tweets sent by verified politicians
As the ongoing debate surrounding big tech’s censorship of conservatives rages on, Twitter has announced a new plan that could soon affect President Donald Trump by hiding “controversial content or behavior which may otherwise violate our rules.”
Although Twitter has never suspended Trump, the platform looks to be moving toward labeling his posts for breaking the company’s user guidelines.
The company explained that Trump’s tweets are too newsworthy to take down, so instead, they said they could hide controversial tweets behind a warning label that explains they’ve violated community standards.
Twitter users would need to click past the label to see the post, which will also be removed from certain sections of the app, including the search.
Twitter added its software would try to limit the spread of these tweets on the social network.
A company spokesman said the new label wasn’t initiated because of any one individual user, but the restrictions suggest otherwise.
“By nature of their positions these leaders have outsized influence and sometimes say things that could be considered controversial or invite debate and discussion,” Twitter wrote in a blog post.
“A critical function of our service is providing a place where people can openly and publicly respond to their leaders and hold them accountable.”
The news comes as Google-owned YouTube deleted a video from their platform after it exposed a plot by Google to interfere in the 2020 presidential elections.
YouTube took down a video from Project Veritas in which an undercover operation secretly filmed an executive from the streaming platform admitting the company has an anti-Trump agenda.
Among the considerations is “newsworthiness” and whether a Tweet is of public interest 3/6

Earlier his month, Trump weighed in on the recent censorship of conservative voices on Twitter, saying the platform is making a ‘giant mistake.’
“Twitter should let the banned Conservative Voices back onto their platform, without restriction,” he wrote on Twitter.
The list of prominent conservative voices Twitter has banned are as follows:
- Roger Stone
- Tommy Robinson
- Gavin McInnes
- Laura Loomer
- Alex Jones
- Milo Yiannopoulos
