WH Press Sec Jen Psaki: Biden Looks Forward to Repeal of Gun Maker ‘Liability Shield’

Psaki touts Biden’s priorities with gun control

White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said Joe Biden is looking forward to repealing the “liability shields” protecting gun manufacturers from frivolous lawsuits.

Last week, lawmakers in the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives passed a radical bill that criminalizes private gun sales.

Members voted to pass the Democratic Party’s long-sought universal background check gun control legislation on Thursday.

The legislation, H.R. 8, makes it a crime to conduct private gun sales without an FBI background check.

The bill, sponsored by Rep. Mike Thompson (D-CA), passed by a vote of 227 to 203.

H.R. 1446 would increase the period the FBI has for an extended, instant background check.

The current time for an extension is three business days.

H.R. 1446 would extend that to at least 10 business days.

The Associated Press quoted  Psaki commenting on the gun control saying Biden is eager “to advance priorities.”

She added Biden’s priorities include “repealing gun manufacturers’ liability shields.”

In the early months of Biden’s presidency, even popular proposals like background checks are lower on his list of priorities and their prospects in the Senate cloudy.

Last year, Biden referenced gun manufacturers and said, “I’m going to take you down.”

He made this statement after bringing up the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (2005).

The PLCAA is designed to shield gun manufacturers from lawsuits in scenarios where the guns in question were legally made and legally sold.

Bill sponsor Thompson claimed, without evidence, his bill is supported by “90 percent of the American [people].”

H.R. 8 was also passed by the House in early 2019 but never taken up by the Republican-controlled Senate.
