Music can be incredibly powerful when it comes to its capability to assist us to deal with and handle our feelings.

In reality, music can be the cure in many scenarios, and people have understood this given that permanently.

Simply stated, music can recover exactly what the tongue cannot state, and the ideas cannot explain.


To see what music has helped people battling with stress and anxiety, The Mighty has asked people in their psychological health community to share their experiences and the songs making them feel at peace.

Melissa F. says the lyrics of this song associates with the way she feels with her stress and anxiety and depression and with how she wishes to assist her kids associate with theirs.

“‘Your eyes, they shine so brightly / I wanna save that light / I can’t escape this now / Unless you show me how.’

“To me, it says I want to help you, and in turn, you end up helping me,” she writes.

2. Twenty One Pilots – Guns for Hands

Ashley A. finds this tune as one that is extremely personal about anxiety and suicidal thoughts.

“Its message is acceptance from others and learning how to overcome it; turn your gun into a fist,” she says.

3. Bring Me The Horizon – Sleepwalking

“When my stress and anxiety was at its worst, I felt grey; the world was a monstrous grey mess.

“I was scared; I wished to yell.

“Then their music happened,” describes Gianluca P.

She felt whole once again in the violence, power, and all the emotion in the song, in addition to the remainder of the band’s tunes.

“I wasn’t the only one suffering. I was not alone,” she states.

4. Bill Evans – Peace Piece

” If peacefulness has a soundtrack, this is it,” states Matt L., describing that Bill Evans’ song has provided him much strength and support.


5. Kesha – Praying

Rebecca S. explains that this tune brings her a peace of mind and soul no matter when she hears it.

“Every time I listen to it I feel like I am in control of my presence and I am worthwhile, which is among the hardest things to accept when you are in that dark location.

“I let the tears circulation, and I am safe inside myself again.”

6. Demi Lovato – Skyscraper

Shanelle M. found this to be one of those songs that’s compelling and loaded with hope.

“It speaks with me and conveniences me on those types of nights,” she states.

7. Green Day – 21 Guns

Myriah T. has found the juxtaposition of soft and loud as the ideal recognition of the way she feels and how it sounded inside her head.

“In the months leading to my hospitalization for suicidal thoughts and attempts back in late 2009 and 2010, I would play it on repeat to fall asleep …”.

8. Coldplay – Us Against the World

Millie M. says that this tune takes her away from her situation and provides her a break from all the stress and unfavorable ideas.

“No matter what time it was, when I needed a break, I struck play, and it simply takes me to exactly what feels like another world.”

9. Joywave – Anemone

Wendy M. explains this is one of those songs that cycles from a “suffocating, inescapable anxiety” into a “warm and reassuring welcome.”

In her struggles, she found this song as particularly valuable to escape the desperate place in her mind.

She not only feels that the calming tune is something that immediately spoke to her, but she also states that the lyrics resonated with her also.

10. Rita Ora – Grateful

This song reminds Taylor S. to be grateful for all the bad along with the excellent, explaining that it puts the important things she’s been through and the method to where she currently is into perspective.

“And that’s something I need a consistent suggestion of– that I would not be the individual I am today without my anxiety and depression.”.


11. Tool – Reflection

Jayson H. says that this tune has constantly helped him.

“The lyrics reflect my experience coming out of depressive episodes; it is at initially a song about despair, however, it ends up being a spiritual awakening.”

He hopes that everybody can find the strength and awakening the method he did.


12. Christina Perri – The Lonely

“I discover myself laying in bed, weeping and considering whether to continue to fight or not.

“I’ll listen to this tune on repeat and get out of that dark emotion,” explains Sara E., who has found this song as one that speaks to her anxiety perfectly.

“Aside from being incredibly positive, this tune reminds me to let go of the unnecessary stresses in my life.

“Even if it’s for just a short while.

“Life can spin out of control in an instant and often, the only thing you can do is break down,” says Dania F.

She adds that this song reminds her that whenever she experiences a breakdown, she needs to look around and see the beauty that our world is plentiful with.

17. Sia – Breathe Me

Rebecca H. says that this tune describes and embodies the feelings of solitude, stress and anxiety, tortured ideas, depression, relapse.

“Being overwhelmed by your very own inner satanic forces and pain, having a breakdown and sensation self-destructive, pleading for help and hoping somebody will listen.”.

18. Colbie Caillat – Try

This tune helps Sara K. realize that she does not need to be perfect to be lovely.

“It helps manage the ideas in my head stating, ‘You’re too fat. No one likes you. You never do anything right. You’re ugly. You only look excellent with a bunch of makeup on,'” she describes, adding that some Colbie’s tunes appear to be extremely useful for her anxiety and anxiety.

19. Van Morrison – Days Like This

Shane E. says that this song helps him come to terms with those days like that happen and will pass.

“Sometimes it’s a real battle, and other ways are essential to cope, however sometime this tune can lift the darkening veil over my mind.”

20. Alessia Cara – How Far I’ll Go from Moana

This song takes G.J C. to another location, away from the chaos in the head.

“It merely reminds me of high times and wonderful sensations, like I’m floating in space or under a thousand stars.

“I feel ‘not in this world’ and naturally in a location where I feel only the great.”
